DIY Light Up Pumpkin for Halloween Decoration

Everyone’s thinking about the Summer coming to an end.. but Halloween is the only thing on OUR mind! (I guess Octoberfest also…)

FBL is getting ready for one of our FAVORITE Holidays of the year by celebrating the classic tradition: Pumpkin Carving! But with a twist… LIGHTS! How’d you know? Let’s get started.

Step one is to find the perfect pumpkin for you obviously. We wanted to keep our pumpkins for a long time so we bought the craftable plastic pumpkin at the good ol’ Michaels.

Just look at that clean pumpkin; perfect size for the porch, outdoor, table decor and so much more! A quick tip here: Get into the Halloween mood with some Purple LED String lights, our Ghost centerpiece and a few of our LED Candles.

Back to Pumpkin Carving! Just search up any design you’d like online, or get creative and make your own! Just remember to create a big enough hole ( or leave room on the top or bottom ) to fit your light inside.

Now here is where the magic starts! We do have lights you could add into your pumpkin that’s smaller but why not go BIG. Our 2.75″ Deluxe Submersible is the perfect light to add to your pumpkin; just look at the color change! It also comes with a REMOTE so you could adjust your light speed to FAST for that party effect or SLOW for the eerie Halloween night effect. If you’re looking for a solid color, our smaller submersibles are a great replacement!

You only need 1 for your pumpkin! Don’t worry, your pumpkin will shine long and bright with one so share your lights with a pumpkin in need. And that’s it folks! You’re guaranteed to win that 1st place for your next pumpkin carving contest. Happy Halloween!

DIY: LED “BIKE” Strip Lights

Hello FBL crafters! Summer’s here and it’s time to cruise around with the gang. Remember our bike lights? They were a HIT with all our biker crew and other cruisers felt left out on all the love. So here we are to spark some creative DIY ideas for everyone in your gang.

This picture represents what we originally intended for the product. An elegant and fun bike décor that doubles as safety lights – I’m talking about those nighttime riders out there, stay seen. But we never imagined what our creative clients would come up with, turning our standard bike lights into…

A light decor for your skateboard and longboard! S-i-i-i-i-i-i-ck!

What are you waiting for? Grab your board and try it out for yourself!

Follow these three simple steps and be the coolest on the streets.

  1. Grab your Skateboard or a longboard.
  2. Get one or two LED Strip Lights for Bike frame; comes in blue or red.
  3. Pick your spot and use scissors/tape to secure them on. (For a permanent fixture, use a hot glue gun. Just make sure the battery housing is facing outward for easy battery replacement.)

And ta-da!

Stay safe and don’t forget a helmet! Happy cruising! ELLY OUT.

Light Up Your Summer Crafts With FBLs!

Aloha, crafters.  With warmer weather comes Summer Crafts.  Adding FBL lights to summer crafts makes for super cool party decor, whether having a couple friends over for a chill patio hang, or a bunch of party animals over for a night swim and dance party.  As one enters said party, imagine being greeted by THIS groovy front door wreath:wreath_front3

Neat-o, huh.  Summer Crafts done with paper cocktail umbrellas are my favorite.  Love that tiki retro vibe, plus with LED lights now readily available & for cheap, it’s a magical match I tell you.  Here are the essential ingredients for your own summer crafts:

  1. FBL battery powered LED String Lights, naturally.
  2. Many colorful paper cocktail umbrellas.  Find ’em in bulk on Amazon.
  3. 1 styrofoam ring found at craft stores.  A twig wreath could work well too.
  4. 1 hot glue gun + sticks!  Aw, my best friend.  Never leave home without my glue gun.

Start by attaching your bendy wire string lights. White LED String lights are the brightest, they rule.  That battery house is simple to conceal behind the wreath, just hot glue it down.  Next zig zag the wire string along the foam ring, bending it as you wish (spread those lights out evenly!), and add dabs of glue along the way to hold in place.  This completes the “skeleton” of your summer craft wreath.  Just pop open those umbrellas & get to piercing them all over the styrofoam!  Easy, right?

wreath_backCheck out the back. NOT a big deal if the glue gets messy, or if toothpicks poke through.  That’ll be our little secret once it’s hung up & on display.  TIP 4 YOU: should you find yourself with a small wreath, break off half of each toothpick to fit the umbrellas nice & snug. ANOTHER ESSENTIAL TIP: overlap the umbrellas to your heart’s content.  The beauty of this part is you can re-pierce each umbrella if you’re not happy with the placement.  Try & try again!  Ya can’t really “mess up”.

For more tiki inspired fun, take a trip down memory lane & have a look at the LED Pineapple Lamp Lights I made a couple summers ago.  *Ooo* they’re gonna look SO lovely next to my new LED Tiki Wreath.  Mahalo, my friends!  Happy Summer, craft it up.pineapples

Peace, Love and Bead Crafts!

beads3Bead Crafts knock my socks off. The low cost of wholesale Mardi Gras Beads keeps it cheap, while keepin’ it real with a whole lotta shine & bling.  Bead crafts can transform into seriously effective DIY party decor.  Remember beaded curtains?  Former flower children & alternative types know what I’m talkin’ about:  that sweet jingle jangle of plastic strands as you walk through a doorway.  There are a ton of New Orleans inspired bead creations on Pinterest, but this one reigns supreme, plus can be made to fit windows, neat-o.  I crafted my own magical doorway beaded curtain for Halloween using FBL glow beads – do you like?

mardigrasbeadcurtain

bead_crafts<<<  That’s right, amigos, I put that together from scratch with 3 things:  my trusty glue gun, a plank of wood, and a pile of beads.  That’s all you need for curtain bead crafts!  Oh, and patience, have plenty of that on hand, for it’s just repetitive motions once you have the materials gathered.  If you’re ready to dive into the world of bead crafts, get some strands from FBL to go all matchy-matchy like I did (took me 66 total bead necklaces), or go the more eclectic route and add old random beads from past Mardi Gras parades.

Let’s cut to the chase – here’s what ya do:

  • Cut each necklace so they’re now long un-connected strands,
  • Hot glue 2 pieces together to make an extra long strand,
  • Get a plank of wood to hot glue these stands to,
  • Repeat until your bead curtain is full enough to your liking, aaaand there ya have it.

Another one of my favorite bead crafts is archived in our blog from last Mardi Gras when I added our sparkly strands to the brim of a top hat.  Mardi Gras is year ’round for so many party people, so it’s never too early to re-visit this gem.  Special guest appearance by our cool copper wire LED string lights!  Battery powered for crafts, y’all.

Party Decor Takes Flight With A Butterfly Light!

How do you do, dear crafters?  Back with more light decoration ideas.  This time we’re exploring the dainty & decorative butterfly light with color change wings.  Each discounted wholesale pack of 12 has an assortment of wing designs; 6 different wings to be exact.  Just what can one do with an LED butterfly light?  Thanks to the battery pack shaped like a tea light candle,          so much!

The most simple & classic way to display your butterfly light is to place some in a tea light candle holder – perfect fit & very zen:

Add a butterfly light to a garden party centerpiece & surround with greenery, shiny beads or river stones for a magical night time touch:

If you’re planning a princess theme or butterfly theme party, place them all about as party favors for others to help themselves to, or drop one in each goody bag with other princess accessories, for little girls REALLY love light butterflies (plus there is a screw on the battery house for safety – its replaceable batteries stay inside when little hands get curious):

For my own personal party wear, I hot glued a butterfly light to our whimsical fairy princess feather halo for a unique hippy headband no one else will have: I gently curled the ribbons with scissors + hot glued to the back 4 cut-up pieces of Mardi Gras beads.  I also hot glued some fake flowers around the butterfly to hide the battery house.  Then end result?  Fabulous!  Easy!  Inexpensive!  Place one on the head of your little birthday girl & she’ll feel like queen for a day.
